Be Amazed
A beacon of light
For the past month or so, I’ve been watching the western sky at dusk. Not for a meteor or even the moon. While the sunsets are always different, each precious and beautiful in unique ways, the light comes and goes so quickly, tracing the edges of clouds in pinks and oranges, casting a radiant glow as the sun slips behind the hills.
I do enjoy the sunsets, but what I wait for is the first glimmer of a single solitary planet. I don’t know which one it is, and the name doesn’t matter at all. Just a detail. The effect this planet has on my well being is far more important than a title given by astronomers.
You see, this brightly shining planet is the one constant in my world right now. When the sun begins to set and the sky shifts gradually from golden brilliance to hues of blue – turquoise, sapphire, indigo – my guiding light emerges, pale at first and strengthening as the last rays of the sun surrender to the night.
Occasionally, the moon rises above the planet, gracing the world with her presence, but I only have eyes for my “north star”. No, it’s not Polaris, the North Star, the one that has guided night wanderers and sailors for centuries. But this planet and its constancy are a beacon of hope for me. A glimmer across a vast distance reminding me to keep my eyes up, focus on the light, and breathe in the wonder of it all
Be amazed, the planet whispers. Be ready to be surprised by joy.
And I am.

Beautiful, Julie! Sunsets are just as important to me, too. It is a light we can all share and breathe in peace.
I often look for that same “star”. It helps me to remember that we all share the same sky and the importance of each little light we bring to the world.✨
