I find glimmers in the most unexpected places these days. It helps that I know they’re there, waiting to be noticed. When I’m in my tiny garden in the early morning, I pay attention to the way the first rays of sun tickle the flowers as if to say “Rise and shine, sleepy head. Another day begins”.
Birds flit and call overhead noting the growing light. Sometimes, if I listen closely, I can hear the steady clip-clop of hooves on the street as mule deer leave soft grassy hollows where they have nestled for the night and climb the hills to forage.
Moments of joy and beauty. Glimmering reminders that life holds as great a capacity for love and hope as it does for anger and sorrow. It all depends on where we choose to focus our attention.
Often the words of someone I’ve never met offer me a glimmer when I need it most. Today, I want to share a poem by Nikita Gill from her collection, “Where Hope Comes From”.
Catching The Light
It’ll hide from you.
Secrete itself away
inside experiences and people.
You’ll find it in unusual places,
like a small child’s song
and a grandmother’s smile.
Kindness always brings it out.
As does the courage to do the right thing,
Despite the cruelty trying to tear you apart.
It’ll glow through the darkest days,
and that’s how you catch it
inside the pocket of your heart.

“Where Hope Comes From”
Gorgeous poem. I'd like to believe that kindness can heal so much of what ails us.
